Character Preview: Nu-13

Hey, folks! With Season 5 on the horizon, we’ve asked D (aka tirankin) to give us insight into the season, it’s mechanics, and characters. Without further ado, let’s let see what D has to say!

Get BlazBlue Exceed here!

Nu-13 is a dedicated zoner with a plethora of ranged options, but she's extremely vulnerable in melee. Rather than pressuring her opponent with attacks, she spends most of her time trying to establish and maintain range. If she can establish extreme range, many of her attacks become completely unbeatable!

Nu's kit is straightforward and her goals are simple, but she must manage her movement tools carefully to avoid getting trapped in melee. She's recommended for defensive players of any experience level who prefer to secure an advantage by taking time rather than taking risks.

Key Design Idea: Keepaway

Nu is the quintessential keepaway zoner: she's desperate to keep opponents as far away as possible. Her character ability makes her untouchable at long range, so creating distance puts tremendous pressure on her opponent to approach.

Strengths & Weaknesses

Nu's attacks are fantastic at long range, but they're still functional at mid-range. She can sometimes win mix-ups at mid-range to get to long range, where she's practically guaranteed to win the next exchange.

In melee, unsurprisingly, Nu's kit falls apart. She spends a lot of resources to create space, so if the opponent gets in her face and prevents her from pushing them back out, she struggles to rebuild her momentum quickly enough to get to a safer range.

Nu's Overdrive allows all of her attacks to hit at mid-range as well as long-range, and it gives her a powerful tool to get out of melee if she ends up trapped. Her Overdrive trigger lets her back up each turn, ensuring opponents are never too close when she wants to attack.

Nu's Astral Heat, Sword of Destruction, is a deadly melee attack that annihilates slower moves. If Nu is stuck in melee, picking up this Astral is a good way to make the opponent think twice about recklessly pressing the attack!
